UCalgary’s LPR Naming Competition winners announced

Students, faculty and staff stepped up and delivered. The winning names will now appear on our LPR vehicles as the virtual parking system continues to roll out

Two vigilant University of Calgary SUVs now have names, and two witty members of the university community are now $100 richer, after the naming competition for UCalgary’s Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) vehicles wrapped up on Feb. 16.

Students, faculty and staff submitted names that were bold, hilarious and wildly creative. Choosing just two winners was not easy, according to Ancillary Services.

After careful review, two names stood apart: "Parks n Rex" and "Peter Parker."

These names have been installed on custom front licence plates on each car, becoming part of daily campus parking and carrying a bit of our community’s personality with them.

Congratulations to our two winners, who will receive $100 in UCalgary Bookstore credit.

The launch of Licence Plate Recognition marks an important shift in how parking works at UCalgary. With the move to virtual parking passes, the LPR vehicles play a central role in supporting a smoother, more efficient system. Naming them gave the campus community a chance to shape that change that felt collaborative and distinctly our own.

To everyone who submitted names, thank you. Your humour, imagination and campus pride made this more than a system rollout.
