Celebrate the end of term with UCalgaryStrong Festival

As the semester comes to a close, the University of Calgary prepares to welcome students back to one of its most meaningful campus traditions. The UCalgaryStrong Festival returns on April 14, offering a space to celebrate the end of classes

Since its launch in 2015, the UCalgaryStrong Festival has grown into a large-scale campus event while maintaining this focus. What began as an initiative to build resilience has become a tradition that reflects the university’s commitment to connection, inclusion and well-being.

Timed just before final exams, the festival is designed to give students a chance to step away from academic pressure, reconnect with friends and the campus community.

Marking the end of term together

For many students, the last day of classes carries a mix of relief and anticipation. The festival creates an opportunity to pause and recognize that moment alongside peers.

Across campus, students can engage in a range of activities, from high-energy entertainment to quieter, more relaxed spaces. Whether attending briefly or staying for the afternoon, the experience is designed to leave students feeling more connected and better prepared for the exam period ahead.

The UCalgaryStrong Festival reflects the kind of campus community the university continues to build, where support, safety and shared experience are at the heart of the celebration.

Building a culture of care

While the event is known for its lively atmosphere, its foundation is intentional. The festival is a substance-free event that centres harm reduction and accessible supports throughout the day, creating an environment where students can make safer choices and access help without hesitation.

This approach reflects a growing emphasis on harm reduction across post-secondary campuses, where the goal is not only to host engaging events, but to actively reduce risk and support student health in practical ways.

The festival also encourages students to take an active role in community care. Checking in with friends, taking breaks and using available supports are all part of the experience.

The community is invited to take part on April 14 and be part of a tradition that continues to evolve while staying grounded in care for one another.

Date: Tuesday, April 14, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m
Location: All activities will take place in five locations, including the Jack Simpson Gym, Red Gym, Gold Gym, Life Design Hub, and Campus Food Hub.

Supports available

Student Medical Response (SMR): At all times, teams will be on duty, focusing on monitoring high-traffic areas and staying on the main campus, excluding the University District and D-block.

Post-Alcohol Support Space (PASS) is a medically supervised, judgment-free space on campus where members of the university community can sleep off the effects of alcohol and/or cannabis, providing safe access to any necessary medical treatment. PASS will operate from Room YA005, from 12 p.m. on April 14 until 6 a.m. on April 15. PASS is accessible via contacting Campus Security at 403-220-5333.
