For the University of Calgary Dinos , it was one remarkable weekend. As the men’s and women’s teams competed in Regina for the championships, Brett Gallant, their skill-development coach, was part of a rink bearing down on Olympic glory at the 2026 Winter Games.

By beating Carleton 7-6 on Feb. 21, the Dinos men — Kenan Wipf, Ky Macaulay, Ethan Drysdale and Spencer Else — captured the national title. Same day? Gallant, playing with skip Brad Jacobs, toppled Great Britain 9-6 to grab the gold medal at the Cortina Olympic Stadium in Cortina D’Ampezzo.

“It’s incredible. To stand on top of the podium with this team, it’s amazing,” Gallant told on-site reporters. “I think that was the hardest game I’ve ever curled, (against) one of the hardest opponents — the No. 1 team in the world.”

Earlier in the Winter Games, Gallant competed in the mixed doubles with wife Jocelyn Peterman, BKin’16, who has been the director of the Dinos curling program since its 2022 launch. They finished fifth.
